Verdict on Jurys Inn accident

Tighter security measures should be imposed after the London’s Jurys Inn accident that killed a carpenter.

An inquest jury on Friday (18th) returned a verdict of accidental death in the case of John Robinson who died following the collapse of more than 11 storeys of scaffolding at the Jurys Inn Hotel site in CMK.

The 49-year-old carpenter, from Eaglestone, suffered a heart attack caused by a blood clot attributed to his injuries in the disaster in April 2006.

In a so-called 'narrative verdict' the jury said there was no single cause for the collapse but earlier in his summing-up Milton Keynes Coroner Rodney Corner listed those factors identified by safety experts.

Development plans to boost tourism

Development plans for Jurys Inn hotel in London and other infrastructure will hopefully bring progress for the city.

A Decision on three major schemes which could see big changes to the skyline of Derby will be made next week.

Councillors will meet on Thursday to consider separate proposals for a £25m Jurys Inn hotel, a £15m retail and office block in Cathedral Road and the transformation of the city's grade II-listed former magistrates' court and police station.

Council leader Chris Williamson said all three developments, which are being recommended for approval, were crucial to the development of the future of the city.
